After a gap of 21 long years, Rajasthan returns as the ‘theme state’ at the 24th annual Surajkund Crafts Mela. The 15-day event will begin on February 1 next year.
Before this, Rajasthan was the theme state at this crafts mela in 1989.
“Yes, Rajasthan has been selected as the theme state for next year’s annual crafts mela,” Kesri Anand Arora, Principal Secretary Tourism Haryana Government confirmed over the phone.
She said Haryana Tourism would like to extend invitations to all SAARC countries to participate in the mela.
“But the invitations are sent through the External Affairs Ministry,” she added.
The crafts mela at Surajkund in Haryana was conceived in 1987 by the state tourism department.
The mela showcases the finest handloom, handicrafts, authentic fragrances and flavours of rich Indian cuisine.
The President of India, Pratibha Devisingh Patil, inaugurated the 23rd Surajkund Mela in February 1, 2009. Madhya Pradesh was the theme state this year, second time in a row.
Afghanistan, Nepal, Thailand and Egypt were among many countries which participated in the Surajkund Crafts Mela last year.
