A woman in Rajasthan’s Sikar district has accused her husband of stripping her and parading her naked in public, police said on Monday.
Police confirmed arresting the accused from Kankara village, about 125 km from Jaipur, but denied that the 42-year-old woman was paraded naked.
The incident comes close on the heels of a similar, shocking incident in Rajsamand district when a woman was paraded naked on a donkey on the diktat of the village council.
“Initial probe has confirmed that the woman was forced outside the house in a semi-naked condition. But reports of parading her in the village has not been proved even after questioning a number of villagers,” said Sikar superintendent of police Dr Ravi, who uses only one name.
The incident took place on Sunday afternoon following a heated argument.
The woman later lodged a complaint with police saying she was paraded naked by her husband who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
Police quoted neighbours as saying that the man has a history of assaulting the wife under the influence of alcohol.
The SP said the couple is married for the last 20 years and has three children.
Dr Ravi quoted the 10-year-old daughter of the woman as saying that she found her mother outside the house without her ‘kurti’ and ‘chunari’ which she gave to her mother.
The SP said statement of the girl has been corroborated by other villagers but charges of parading her naked have not been proved.
The woman also alleged that a piece of cloth was stuffed into her mouth after which she lost consciousness.
The officer said the accused, a farmer, has been booked under various sections of the IPC and the Domestic Violence Act.
