Rajbala, 51, who died after sustaining spinal injuries in the police crackdown on yoga guru Baba Ramdev's fast at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi in June, was cremated in Sonepat, Haryana, on Tuesday.
Her last rites were attended by Ramdev, senior BJP leader Sushama Swaraj, and INLD chief Om Prakash Chautala among others.
Speaking at the condolence meeting held after the cremation, Ramdev described Rajbala as a “martyr”, and added that her "supreme sacrifice" would be an inspiration to people to rise against corruption and black money stashed in foreign banks.
He also blamed Union home minister P Chidambaram and the Delhi Police for Rajbala’s death.
Swaraj said, "A day after the incident, (Union minister) Kapil Sibal said there was not even a single cane charge, not even a single person was injured... if no one was injured, how did Rajbala die? Kapil Sibal should answer... Rajbala sacrificed her life."
She went on to add, "Rajbala was a disciple of Ramdev and had gone to Delhi on his call. I met the doctors at the GB Pant hospital, who told me her spine had broken... Her murder will become a turning point to shake this government."
Dismissing the criticism, Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi said, "Nobody is responsible. I suggest the BJP and Sushma Swaraj not politicise the issue. They should not try to take political mileage from it. There should be no politics over the dead."
