Two persons were killed and as many critically injured after being hit by the New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Rajdhani Express in Orissa's Jajpur district on Sunday, making it the fifth incident in eight days which together claimed 33 lives in various parts of the country.
The mishap occurred near Jajpur Road level crossing when they were crossing the railway tracks. Though deceased were yet to be identified, they were believed to be daily labourers, official sources said.
The injured were admitted to nearby Jajpur Road Area Hospital. "The condition of the two is critical," Nishikanta Kar, additional district medical officer, Jajpur, said.
Yesterday, five railwaymen, including an officer, were run over by the Delhi-bound Dehradun Janshatabdi Express near Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh.
In Haryana, 12 people, including six railway employees were killed in two incidents on November 3 at Pataudi and at Ballabgarh near Delhi.
Fourteen people were killed and around 25 injured when a speeding Gonda-Ayodhya passenger train rammed into a truck at an unmanned level crossing at Gonda in Uttar Pradesh on November 1.
