Expressing deep shock and grief over the Chamunda Devi Temple stampede, BJP President Rajnath Singh on Tuesday assured that all steps would be taken to help the victims.

"Its a shocking incident. Its unfortunate that such a tragedy has occurred at a holy place and especially during an auspicious occasion," Singh told PTI.

The party chief expressed his confidence in Rajasthan government administration's relief work and assured that all steps would be taken to help the victims.

"The party expresses its deep condolences to the victims and families of the dead and wishes speedy recovery to the injured. The state government is taking all steps to minimise casualties and help is being provided to those injured at the earliest," he said.

Over 100 people, mostly men, have been reported dead and more than 30 injured during the stampede that took place at the temple, situated on a hillock in the famous Mehrangarh Fort of Jodhpur.

The devotees in huge numbers, especially women, had gathered at the temple from early this morning in view of the Navaratri festival starting from today.
