The Raju brothers locked in the general ward of a Hyderabad jail after their arrest in the Satyam Computer corporate fraud case were joined on Sunday by Vadlamani Srinivas, the man who presided over as Chief Financial Officer in the long years of the company’s descent into global ignominy.
Sleuths raided several places in the city covering the offices of Satyam and the residences of some directors including the three arrested. “The raids started this morning and are continuing," a police official said. The search will be carried out in Satyam offices in other cities too, authorities said.
For the man at the centre of the scandal, things have changed dramatically from the days he supped with Fortune 500 heads.
Jail sources said Ramalinga Raju, Satyam’s ousted chairman, spent the day largely on his own, and some time with his brother Rama Raju, after a frugal breakfast of upma and a light lunch of rice and mutton curry, the standard jail kitchen fare on Sundays. He has been allowed a rug, a bed-sheet and a blanket.
Srinivas, a right hand man for Raju, was taken into custody by Criminal Investigation Department sleuths last Friday. The police produced him at the home of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate D Ramakrishna, who remanded him to judicial custody until January 23, the same fate as the disgraced brothers.
