A week after being released from Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore, Ram Parkash finally crossed over to India on Monday.
His son Deepak was at Wagah border to receive Parkash, who returned after serving 10 years in Pakistan jail on charges of spying.
He was handed over to the Border Security Force officials at the Attari Check Post Monday morning after a mix-up delayed his return home last week. Pakistani authorities had not officially informed the Indian High Commission in Islamabad about his release.
Thanking the almighty for his freedom, Parkash said last one week seemed longer than the 11 years he had to spend in Pakistan.
Charged with spying, Parkash was kept in illegal custody for one year and tortured before being produced in the court and subsequently sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment.
Parkash revealed that some Indian prisoners, who were seriously ill, were not getting proper treatment in the Kot Lakhpat Jail owing to scarcity of doctors and medicines. “If not treated properly, some of them nmay die,” he added.
