In a reminder of the aftermath of the death of the Delhi bus gang-rape victim, protesters spilled onto the roads of Ranchi following the suicide of a teen gangrape victim.

The student of Ranchi Women’s College had set herself on fire on Wednesday after being gangraped on March 17, allegedly by her boyfriend and three others.

On Thursday morning, hundreds blocked the national highway-2, demanding prompt arrest and death penalty of the accused.

At night, candle-light marches and street protests were held in different parts of the city, to express solidarity with the girl the locals have christened “Jharkhand’s Damini”.

“We have arrested Uttam Mahto, one of the four accused,” said AV Minz, superintendent of police, Ranchi Rural. Raids are being conducted to arrest the rest.

Death for rape, murder of girl
Mumbai: A court awarded death sentence to Ramchandra Karanjule for physically and sexually exploiting mentally-challenged minor girls housed at the Panvel-based orphanage.

While awarding the sentence, the court observed, “The present case is not the incident of a day. For years, Ramchandra alongwith others, physically and sexually exploited the girls. Every day he was raping helpless victims. Murder of one of the inmates is proved against him.”
