After playing dark, brooding characters in D and Risk Randeep Hooda goes really romantic in his next movie Ru-ba-ru.
"I love the title! Believe it or not, I'm an ultra-romantic myself. The film is directed by Arjun Bali (whose forte is ad films). When he came to me with the concept, I was bowled over. I shaved off my moustache for the role as I wanted to look soft and romantic," Randeep told IANS.
The actor likes to space out his projects.
"I do one film at a time. Between D and Risk I just had a cameo in Darna Zaroori Hai. I like to choose my films carefully. My parents who live in Haryana have been very worried, wondering what their son is up to. But I've told them not to worry, I'll have more work as soon as I finish what I'm doing. After Risk, I've moved on and completed a new film."
But why is he so choosy?
"I meet directors and take a decision instinctively. My criterion for selection is - how much will a film enhance my creativity? I won't do a film just to be seen by the public. People advice me to increase my output. But I feel if you believe in your work, your equity will build up.
"Ru-ba-ru is the kind of film I feel like doing today. It's an out-and-out romantic film with no action sequences. It's about cherishing moments. I was looking for a romantic project where there's delicacy and sensitivity. I feel I got that project."
So is this the undisclosed side of Randeep?
"The romantic side of me is the real me. Right after this project I will go into another mood. But for now I'm in a romantic mood."
Where's romance in his real life?
"Contrary to general perception, romance is very much alive in my life. Maybe I love myself the most. But being with myself and getting to know myself every day is a very rewarding experience."
Randeep, who once dated Sushmita Sen, is happy being single.
"I've always been single. When was I ever married? Yes, I've had a couple of intense relationships and now I'm out of them. I used to read in the papers that actors don't have time for love. Now I know it's true. I'm so busy I only have time for love on screen. I'm not in a relationship with anyone and I love my freedom."
As for the rumours about Tabu, Randeep said: "I do not want to give importance to such rumours by responding. It's all hogwash. I'm having fun, laughing, going out with friends and playing my music. I've never felt more romantic. The romance is what I'm living for."
