It is not only the criminals but politicians are also feeling the heat these days. JD (U) MLA from Goh in Aurangabad district, Ranvijay Singh alias Manoranjan Singh, was arrested from Hazaribagh in Jharkhand late on Thursday night in connection with a murder case.
Singh, who was hiding in the house of a retired DIG, Dayashankar Prasad, was brought to Aurangabad on Friday and produced in the civil court, which later remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days. The MLA, however, complained of severe pain in his chest and was subsequently admitted to the ICU of the Aurangabad hospital.
Singh's arrest followed the order of Magadh range DIG, Umesh Kumar Singh on January 31. The MLA was a named accused in the killing of Brijnandan Yadav at Hasanpur village under GohGoh police station on February 3, 2005 during the campaigning for the assembly elections.
Yadav had in his dying declaration alleged that Singh had himself shot at him with a rifle. The then Aurangabad SP, Paras Nath, who supervised the case, found the allegations true against Singh and ordered his arrest. The court later issued a warrant of arrest against the legislator.
Sources said that the arrest warrant remained under wraps for several months as efforts were being made to hand over the case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The police swung into action after the deceased's kin filed a writ petition in the Patna High Court, seeking its intervention in getting the arrest warrant executed.
Another MLA from Lakhisarai district, Phulena Singh, surrendered before the court on Friday in a case related to false affidavit in the last assembly poll.
