Rashid Malbari, an underworld criminal arrested last month while allegedly on a mission to assassinate certain political leaders, was remanded in four-day police custody on Wednesday by a local court in Bangalore in connection with a 1998 shootout case.

Malbari, who was brought here today from Belgaum, was remanded in custody by the 11th ACMM court till April 19, police said.

The order came in a case in which a person was injured in a shootout following a “petty” quarrel at K G Halli in the city over a decade ago.

Malbari, a Chhota Rajan aide, has been earlier shifted from Mangalore Sub Jail to a Sub Jail in Belgaum District due to security reasons.

Rashid Malbari alias Double, an Interpol notified criminal, was arrested on March 29 last along with four of his accomplices who allegedly hatched a conspiracy to kidnap a prominent person from Udupi for a ransom of crores of Rupees and also to assassinate some prominent persons in the country during the run up to Lok Sabha polls.
