Congress chief Sonia Gandhi’s “show off” jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi drew sharp criticism from the BJP, which hit back by questioning the achievements of the UPA government and the authority of Modi’s predecessor Manmohan Singh.

At an election rally on Saturday, Gandhi had accused Modi of trying to “show off” as if everything has been done only after his government came to power and asked the PM what happened to his promise of bringing back the black money stashed abroad.

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad hit back at Sonia saying Modi government had set up an SIT on black money in the very first meeting of the Union cabinet.

“Your government could not form a SIT on black money in two years despite Supreme Court directives,” Prasad said.

He drew a comparison between the present government and the previous one, saying Sonia’s government only “made tall claims while Modi’s government is a working government where decisions are made and implemented.”

He also added that the previous PM was a weak one and Modi makes for a stronger PM.

“India today has a towering leader, a powerful PM whose voice is heard not only in the country but in the entire world over with respect,” he said.
