A NUMBER of Lucknow candidates did the city proud in the Civil Services Examination 2005. Priya Goel (162 rank), Niharika Singh (191 rank), Manish Rai (247 rank) and Manu (277 rank) are just some.

A graduate in Computer Engineering, Priya Goel had a job but the zeal to join civil services prompted her to take the exam. “I was desperate to join the Civil services as it has a blend that no other avenue provides,” said an elated Priya. This was her second attempt.

She added: “I wanted to excel in life and I could not think of any other job or profession than this. No wonder, I’ve not secured good rank but then that’s not the end of the road. There is always a next time and if everything goes well then I might just think of taking another attempt to improve my rank.”

For Niharika Singh, it was her fourth attempt. A post-graduate in Chemistry, she also holds a B Ed degree from IT College. Manish Rai has done MBBS from KG Medical University and this was his third attempt. “I’m ranked 247 but I would try to improve my ranking in the final attempt next year. The experience of the previous two attempts was a good learning experience for me,” he avers.
