Ruud van Nistelrooy called Real Madrid the best club in the world and said on Friday that he looked forward to scoring goals again with former teammate David Beckham.
"I am very happy to be at the best club in the world and I want to score many goals," Van Nistelrooy said after passing a medical test.
Van Nistelrooy arrived in the Spanish capital early on Friday after Real Madrid reached a deal with Manchester United to sign the Netherlands striker for three years.
The Spanish club gave no financial details but news reports said that the 29-time Spanish league champion would pay United euro15 million (US$28 million) for the 30-year-old forward. "It's great to be here. It's a very special feeling," Van Nistelrooy said.
"Signing for Real Madrid is a dream I had as a football player and it has come true," he added. "When Real Madrid comes for you, there's nothing to think about because you know it's the No. 1 club in the whole world."
Van Nistelrooy will be Madrid's third acquisition since Ramon Calderon won the club's presidential election on July 3. Fabio Cannavaro and Emerson arrived earlier this week from Juventus.
The transfers, costing a reported euro38 million (US$48.5 million), are aimed are bringing an end to the club's three-year trophy drought.
"I am mesmerized by the history and their players, because the people who have played here are so incredible," said Van Nistelrooy, who played with Beckham at United from 2001-03.
"I miss Beckham a lot. I was very sad to see him leave Man U because of who he is as a human being and the connection we had inside the pitch," the forward said. "The times we shared were wonderful and I hope to rekindle the feeling and relive the results in Madrid."
Van Nistelrooy is the sixth attacker in Madrid's squad, joining Ronaldo, Robinho, Raul Gonzalez, Antonio Cassano and Julio Baptista, prompting suggestions the nine-time European champion will seek to offload a striker or two.
"I am dying to play with Ronaldo," Van Nistelrooy said. "He's fantastic. His scoring numbers speak a thousand words."
