Reasi will be hosting its first adventure sports event this month, a press release issued by the district administration of Reasi said here on Thursday.
Beginning November 29, the three-day National Rafting Championship will begin on Chenab river, near Reasi town, and the district administration is working overtime to ensure the event, which will also be attended by state tourism minister Ghulam Ahmed Mir on its first day, is a success.
To finalise arrangements for the event, Reasi district development commissioner Shahid Iqbal Choudhary chaired a meeting here on Thursday. During the meeting, arrangements for stay of visiting teams and supporting agencies were finalised.
Medical facilities, drinking-water facility, rescue and security plans, publicity and promotion plans were also finalised during the meeting.
Red Cross volunteers and mobile medical teams will also be deployed along the routes of the races that will take place. The three-day event is likely to be attended by several sports lovers and top dignitaries of the state.
In recent times, Reasi has emerged as a river-rafting destination for tourists and pilgrims visiting
Mata Vaishno Devi and Shri Shiv Khori.
