At least 20 state associations affiliated to the erstwhile Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) will be meeting in New Delhi on Thursday to take up the matter of their Hockey India affiliation with the sports ministry and the international hockey federation (FIH).
The associations will meet FIH vice-president Tony von Ondarza, who has been appointed observer for the Hockey India elections. Von Ondarza will be reaching New Delhi on Thursday following complaints by many state associations about the affiliation process adopted by Hockey India. The state associations, including those of Punjab, Karnataka, Mumbai, Bengal and Delhi, have not been granted affiliation by Hockey India.
Hockey India has reportedly granted affiliation to around 19 state and some institutional bodies.
Hockey India president AK Mattoo refused to give names of the associations that have been granted affiliation.
