No union minister except Praful Patel was seen at Friday's wedding reception of Nitin Gadkari's son, though the event was as grand as it was expected to be.

President Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, general secretary Rahul Gandhi and filmstar Amitabh Bachchan were on the list of invitees.

Police were fully stretched trying to control the traffic at the airport area and the road to the venue. More than 2,000 additional policemen were deployed in the area for the VVIP arrangements.

Airport official SS Prajapati said there were around 50 chartered flights coming to Nagpur. Of those, several were routed to Jalgaon, Akola, Amravati and Gondia for parking.

For those who could not attend, another reception has been organised on Saturday. Around 200,000 people have been invited to attend Saturday’s reception.

Opposition leader Sushma Swaraj could not attend Saturday's function because she was busy with the parliament proceedings.
Of the rest who came to bless the newlywed Nikhil and Rutuja were BJP leader LK Advani, Rajya Sabha opposition leader Arun Jaitley, Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh, Jharkhand chief minister Arun Munda, former Rajya Sabha chairperson Najma Heptulla, MNS chief Raj Thackeray, former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan, and former BJP chief Rajnath Singh.

Film personalities such as Hema Malini, Shatrughun Sinha, Poonam Dhillon, Anupam Kher, Kirron Kher and Dhiraj Kumar also were present.
