A teenaged girl was killed when a truck ran over her in Nazirabad on late Wednesday night while another person was crushed to death in a separate mishap in Talaiya.
In the first incident, the victim - Reena, 16, daughter of Karan Singh, was killed. Police said Reena was walking on the road near her house in Nazirabad, when a speedily driven truck ran over her.
The driver had lost control over the vehicle and it overturned. The girl died on the spot. Police said that the truck was laden with mangoes. Preliminary investigation suggests that the truck driver had hit another person earlier and hence was driving speedily in order to get away from the area, as fast as possible.
At the turn, driver lost control and the vehicle hit the girl, killing her on the spot. Soon after the mishap, the truck driver fled the spot. The police have registered a case against the truck driver and have launched a hunt for him.
The other mishap occurred in Talaiya where an unidentified person was crushed to death. Police said that the mishap occurred at around 1.30am. The body was found at Itwara under the jurisdiction of Talaiya police station.
It is surmised that a recklessly driven heavy vehicle crushed the person to death. The deceased’s face was mutilated beyond recognition.
Police said that the person was around 35- 40-year- old.
Efforts are on to ascertain the victim’s identity while hunt is on to catch the heavy vehicle involved in the hit- and- run incident.
Meanwhile, a middle-aged woman who was injured in a mishap a few days back, succumbed to injuries.
The victim, Kusum, 55, had received critical injuries in the accident at Shyamla Hills. She was undergoing treatment at hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. The police are conducting investigations in this connection.
