FUELLING SPECULATION over re-constitution in the mayor-in-council (MiC), one of the MiC members resigned today while another MiC member is likely to resign on Thursday. It is speculated that Mayor Sunil Sood is likely to re-constitute the MiC soon.

Sood is likely to start the reconstitution exercise in order to balance all factions of the Congress. In the present 10-member MiC, at least half of the members are considered supporters of MLA from Bhopal North, Arif Aqueel, whose relations with the Mayor have deteriorated during the past one year due to different reasons.

Meanwhile, MiC member Mohammed Saghir has already submitted his resignation to the Mayor. When asked, Saghir told the Hindustan Times that he has resigned from the MiC berth clearing way for the re-constitution.

Sood, however, did not confirm the resignation of Saghir and said that he may ask for the resignations from the members in order to reconstitute the MiC.

Besides, there were rumours about the resignation by another MiC member Jamal Akhtar. Another MiC member Kailash Mishra also claimed that he would submit the resignation on Thursday.

Sources said that Union Minister Suresh Pachauri is against the reconstitution of the MiC. It is learnt that Pachauri has told Sood that there is no need of any change. Sood is likely to consult further on this issue with Pachauri.
