A sand sculpture of Santa Claus, prepared by Sudarsan Patnaik at Orissa's Puri beach, has set the record for the longest such artwork in the country.
"Vijaya Ghose, editor of Limca Book of Records, has sent me a confirmation," Patnaik told IANS over telephone from Puri, 56 km from here.
The Santa Claus Patnaik created on the beach with help from 15 students was 100 feet long, 30 feet wide and 15 feet high. The artist said he had completed the sculpture using 1,000 tonnes of sand.
"I am told the Santa Claus will find an entry in the Limca Book in its 2008 edition as the longest," Patnaik said.
Sudarsan has participated in more than 30 international sand sculpture contests across the world and won many awards.
