Recruitment scam timeline:

June 5, 2003: Haryana IAS officer (now under suspension) Sanjiv Kumar moves Supreme Court complaining of large scale corruption and tampering of records in filling up of about 4000 vacancies of Junior Basic Training (JBT) teachers in 1999-2000.

November 25, 2003: SC orders a probe by the CBI into the complaint.

December 12, 2003: CBI registers a preliminary enquiry(PE).

May 24, 2004: The CBI registers a regular case (RC) under sections 420, 467, 468, 471, 120-B of IPC and 13(2), 13(1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 against Vidya Dhar the then officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Haryana Chief Minister; Sher Singh Barshami the then Political Advisor to CM; the then chairpersons and members of the district level selection committees constituted for the posts of JBT teachers in Ambala, Bhiwani, Faridabad, Fatehabad, Gurgaon, Jhajjar, Jind, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Mahindergarh, Panchkula, Panipat, Rohtak, Rewari, Sirsa, Sonepat and Yamunanagar districts and several other persons.

February 17, 2005: Haryana IAS officer, Sanjiv Kumar also booked in a disproportionate assets case by the CBI. CBI says Kumar’s role in the JBT teachers recruitment also under close scrutiny.

May 2004- 2008: Investigation by CBI established that the appointments of 3032 teachers were made on the basis a fraudulently prepared second set of interview lists prepared at the behest of the former CM, OP Chautala, his elder son, Ajay Singh Chautala who was an MP then, the then OSD to the CM, Vidya Dhar, the then Political Advisor to CM; Sher Singh Barshami and the then Director, Primary Education, Sanjiv Kumar and others.

June 6, 2008: CBI files a charge sheet in the court of Special CBI judge against former CM, OP Chautala, his son Ajay Singh Chautala, IAS officer, Vidya Dhar, the then Political advisor to the Chief Minister, Sher Singh Barshami; the then Director Primary Education, Sanjiv Kumar and 57 others under sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120B f IPC and Section 13(2) and 13(1)(d) of PC Act 1988.

June 16, 2008: CBI court takes cognizance of the charge sheet.

July 23, 2011: Charges framed against 61 accused by Special CBI Judge, Rohini. A retired official of Haryana Education Department was discharged.

August 4,2012: Defence evidence concludes.

December 17, 2012: Final arguments in the case conclude. During the trial, six accused (retired Education Department officials passed away). The CBI produced 68 witnesses during trial.
