Female IT professionals would conjure up the image of geeky bespectacled women who don't have a clue about the latest in haute couture, in your mind, but now a provocative calendar with tech professional ladies posing in bikinis is all set to shake that traditional image.
Gold Coast-based IT expert Sonja Bernhardt said the motivation for the calendar was the rapidly declining number of women taking up computer studies and careers.
"Five years ago, women made up 25 per cent of the IT industry worldwide and now it's down to 16 per cent," Bernhardt was quoted by the Daily Telegraph, as saying.
"The method in the madness is to get to a broader audience so that people can see that it's not nerds in the IT industry.
"They are full-bodied, fully intelligent, fully socialised women who absolutely love what they do," she added.
The IT Screen Goddesses Calendar features women from the IT industry posing as movie sirens, such as the bikini-clad Ursula Andress in the James Bond movie Dr No and the rose petal scene from the movie American Beauty. More information is available on http://www.itgoddess.info.
"Statistics show us that one of the biggest barriers to entry is the perception of the industry. We want to completely smash this by doing this in a parody way. We've been there, we've done that with traditional programs and we now know that it is time to do something dramatically different to appeal to a broader audience and to generate a healthy debate," Bernhardt confessed.
