Union petroleum minister S Jaipal Reddy’s niece, Dr Kiran Reddy, 26, was murdered, doctors who conducted the postmortem have concluded. A case of murder was filed under Section 302 of the IPC and the police say they will question her husband again.
Earlier, a case of suspicious death had been filed. Reddy, a dermatologist, was found dead at her home in Bharani Layout in the posh Jubilee Hills on Saturday.
“It is case of murder. We will submit the final report to the government on Thursday,” said one of the six forensic experts from the Gandhi Medical College and Hospital, who conducted the postmortem.
Jubilee Hills Circle Inspector K Narsing Rao said Reddy had a deep bruise on her head and had been asphyxiated.
Reddy, the daughter Jaipal Reddy’s elder sister Bharati, was married to Dr Chaitanya Reddy five years ago. The couple have a four-year-old daughter. Chaitanya was a businessman and Reddy was attached to a private hospital
On Friday night, the couple had gone to a party thrown by a relative and returned home late. They slept in separate rooms, since Chaitanya snored, police said. On Saturday morning, finding her unconscious, Chaitanya took her to the Apollo hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
On Sunday, Reddy’s father Raghottam Reddy complained to the police that his daughter’s death was unnatural. He alleged that her husband and in-law’s were behind her death.
Sources said the police had already questioned Chaitanya, who said there was no problem between him and Kiran.
Reddy’s brother Nitin Reddy, who lives on the second floor of the same house, was picked up for questioning. Police said Nitin’s wife had left him barely a month after their marriage.
