Academy award-winning actress Reese Witherspoon has teamed up with Canadian producers to make a film on the shocking murder of Reena Virk, an Indian-Canadian teenager.Witherspoon’s company, Type A Films, has partnered with Canadian companies Brightlight Pictures and Rhombus Media for the project. Virk was beaten and drowned in Victoria city, Canada in 1997, leading to international headlines and calls for a change in Canadian juvenile justice laws.
Titled Under the Bridge, the film is based on the book by Rebecca Godfrey of the same name. “Rebecca’s book is a stunning and heartbreaking tale that looks at a very dark side of teenage life. We are committed to bringing Under the Bridge to the big screen and making a film that does this story justice,”said Witherspoon’s partner Jennifer Simpson.
