Irked that the staff at a bar in Ghaziabad they visited refused to serve them more drinks, a Delhi police constable and his friend allegedly opened fire inside the bar and then later fired shots at the policemen chasing them late on Tuesday night.
Police said constable Satish Chaudhary, a resident of Raj Nagar area in Ghaziabad, had gone to Champion Bar at Raj Nagar district centre with his friend Rahul Chaudhary.
Ghaziabad senior superintendent of police (SSP) Raghubir Lal said, "They had an altercation with the staff who refused to serve them any more drinks as it was already around midnight. The duo also refused to pay their bill and fired two rounds from a foreign-made pistol inside the bar and then fled in their Scorpio car."
After this, the bar employees alerted the police and then PCR vans and policemen on bikes gave the two accused a chase in Kavi Nagar residential area of Ghaziabad.
“During the chase, the accused men fired 4-5 shots at the police but were later nabbed near Kavi Nagar police station," SSP added. No one was reported injured in both the shooting incidents (at the bar and later during the police chase). A police officer sustained injuries when his motorcycle skidded while chasing the accused, the SSP said.
The police eventually managed to arrest the two men. Charges of attempt to murder have been slapped against them. The police also managed to recover the foreign-made pistol, which the accused claimed was licensed, from them.
