Former Pakistan skipper Rehan Butt was named captain of the Chandigarh team for the World Series Hockey despite doubts whether he would actually participate.

A total of eight Pakistan players had signed up for the WSH but their participation is questionable since the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) categorically asked them to stay away from the league declared unsanctioned by the International Hockey Federation (FIH). “I can’t confirm my participation until permitted by PHF,” Butt told HT over telephone from Pakistan. “The organisers have told us that they are working with the FIH on a solution. But I won’t play unless my federation permits me as representing Pakistan in the Olympics is more important for me,” said Butt.
