The lifetime achievement award conferred on ageless actress Rekha did not go down well with her — not the award but its name.

The state government was forced to change the name of the award to please the miffed actress.

“As per the actresses request, the government has decided to change the name of the award being conferred on Rekha. The actress will now get Raj Kapoor Pratibha Gaurav Award,” the state government said in a release on Monday.

The state government on May 15 had decided to confer the Raj Kapoor Lifetime Achievement Award on Rekha for her contribution to the Hindi film industry. In less than a fortnight, the government changed the award’s name.

Lifetime awards are generally given to senior actors for their significant contribution.

The awards are generally given at the fag-end of the career or to retired artistes.

The government hadn’t seem to have taken into consideration the 55-year-old actress’s apathy towards being proclaimed as an aged actress or putting her in the thespian category.

The government has issued a clarification and changed the name of the award by deleting the word ‘Lifetime’.

The state government had appointed a committee after some Maratha organisations had demanded a change in the name of the award being given to coaches which were called the Dadaji Konddeo Best Coach awards.

The government took more than a year to change the name of these awards.
