Maharashtra BJP on Thursday asked the state government to relieve with immediate effect A N Roy, whose appointment as DGP was set aside by Bombay High court.
In a statement issued in Mumbai, Eknath Khadse, BJP leader in the State Assembly said the state government's image has been completely tarnished.
"If the government wants to salvage some pride, it should relieve Roy immediately and announce his successor on Thursday itself," Khadse said.
He said in the Assembly, Opposition parties had repeatedly brought to the notice of the government that Roy's appointment as DGP was illegal. But, the government ignored it and supported Roy throughout.
