Relocation efforts yield results

india Updated: Sep 19, 2006 16:04 IST

Around TWO-DOZEN residents living in flood-hit areas around Patra Nullah gave consent for their relocation. Areas near Patra Nullah in the City were worst affected due to water-logging in the wake of torrential rains in August.

The BMC recently served notices to some 190 owners of houses, which were hampering the flow of Patra Nullah from Mahamai Ka Bagh to Pushpa Nagar. Of these, about 120 people were told to vacate houses immediately. Besides these 120 house owners, the BMC also told 80 people to produce the documents related to the ownership and building permission.

Fearing forcible removal, about two-dozen of those who were told to vacate their houses immediately gave consent for shifting. It is learnt that the district administration would provide land to these people at other places.

Most of those who gave consent are currently living in Kammo Ka Bagh. The BMC officials are quite excited about the positive outcome. BMC City Planner Sunita Singh said about two-dozen more  may give consent for shifting in a few days.  They may be shifted to Semra village, also situated along Patra Nullah.
