THE CITY police on Wednesday arrested Nathan Singh in connection with the brutal murder of Renu Gupta that had occurred in Nariyalkheda on April 4.

Singh was hiding near his hometown in Vidisha and had grown a beard in order to change his appearance. During interrogation he confessed he stabbed the girl to death.

The accused had fled the City soon after the murder and was hiding in a temporary structure near his hometown in Nateran (Vidisha). Earlier, the police had sent parties to Salamatpur, Nagaur, Barkheda Bondar, Ghatwar, Berasia and several other places in search for him.

The accused told police he had professed his love before the girl and she had also reciprocated. However, later under the influence of her family the girl stopped talking to him and snubbed him whenever he made advances towards her. This angered Singh and he decided to ‘teach the girl a lesson’ for her betrayal.

He waited for her to come out of the house and when she was returning from the temple, attacked her with a knife. She died on the spot. The accused was living in Nariyalkheda for the last eight years and had abandoned his wife and children.

The accused used to visit the deceased’s family for the almost five years and had even tied ‘rakhi’ to her mother. The accused worked as contractual labourer with the BSNL.
