THE TWO South African nationals, who were assaulted by Bajrang Dal activists in Chhindwara on Monday, were carrying chicken meat and pork, police here said on Tuesday.
The saffron brigade activists had beaten up the two alleging that the duo - Godan and WA Jacob- was carrying beef. The two were also deprived of some of their valuables during the attack.
Both Godan and Jacob, employed with a South African coal exploration company, were carrying raw chicken meat and pork to save time in Nagpur. They had planned to cook it at the WCL rest house in Nagpur, the police said.
Chhindwara Range DIG Ashok Awasthi, however said that the confirmatory test with chemical analysis would be carried out at the Government Veterinary Hospital Chhindwara on Wednesday as it was a holiday on Tuesday due to Muharram.
He said the incident would be investigated from all angles. Awasthi said Godan has left for Kolkata while Jacob has gone back to his country. “When Godan returns from Kolkata we are going to seek his help in investigation,” he said.
Seventeen persons have been booked for their involvement in the assault while four have been arrested so far. Police are looking for the others, he said.
