The 60th Republic Day was celebrated in Ferozepur on Monday with lot of patriotic fervour and gaiety at Shahid Bhagat Singh Stadium where Manoranjan Kalia, Local Bodies and Industries Minister unfurled the national flag and took salute from smartly dressed contingents drawn from BSF, Punjab Police, Punjab Home Guards and NCC units.
Escorted by DC and SSP, he also inspected the guard of honour. Commissioner B S Sudan, DIG Ferozpur Range R P Mittal, Jaspal Singh Sessions Judge , DC Megh Raj, Dinesh Pratap SSP were also present.
On the occasion, the Chief Guest stated that on this auspicious occasion, we should reiterate our resolve to protect
sovereignty, self dependence and unity of the nation.
While lauding the contribution of Punjabis during the freedom struggle, Kalia said that Punjabis have always remained in forefront while sacrificing their lives for the nation.
He exhorted the people to root out corruption and work for the progress for the nation.
In the function, several sportsmen, historian, freedom fighters besides 60 police and government servants were honoured
in recognition of the honest discharge of their respective duties by these people.
On the occasion, 65 tricycles were distributed to the handicapped persons and 125 sewing machines were provided to the
widows and needy women.
The function culminated with impressive cultural programme in which school children presented various dances and songs on national integration.
