Advocating a change in the current reservation system, senior Gujjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla today said that a new policy should be worked out to benefit the deserving people. "Reservation policy should be reviewed.
People who have reaped its benefits should be excluded from it. Deserving ones should be included in it," Rajasthan Gujjar Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti Convenor Bainsla told reporters here.
The duration of reservation on the old formula is being extended he said adding that it was the time for a national debate on it. "Let the people demanding reservation on caste lines for a long time get its benefit," the 70-year-old leader said when asked whether reservations should be based on economic factors.
Bainsla said the Gujjars agitation demanding reservation for their community from December 20-January 5 was by and large peaceful.
The Gujjar community struggle will continue in Rajasthan till their demand for reservation is met, he added.
