In the midst of the controversy over reservations, HRD Minister Arjun Singh met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday evening.

There was no official word on what was discussed during the meeting, which comes in the midst of reports that Social Welfare Minister Meira Kumar had questioned the HRD Minister's move to circulate a draft cabinet note on the reservation policy without waiting for the report of the Oversight Committee.

There were also reports the Oversight Committee, set up to prepare the roadmap for implementation of reservation in elite educational institutions, reportedly had suggested to the HRD Ministry to put on hold its draft Bill till finalisation of its interim report.

However, the Committee headed by senior Congress leader Veerappa Moily denied the reports saying that it had never suggested postponement of introduction of the quota Bill in the coming monsoon session of Parliament.

The meeting between the Prime Minister and the HRD Minister also comes in the midst of senior PMK leader S Ramadoss calling on Arjun Singh on Monday pleading for full implementation of the proposal to reserve seats for OBCs in elite educational institutions like IITs.
