Following the move of the Joint Action Forum of RWAs (Jafra), another resident welfare associations’ group, the Gurgaon Citizens Council (GCC), on Tuesday said it will field candidates in seven municipal wards of New Gurgaon for the civic body election scheduled to be held on May 15.

Out of the seven wards — 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34 and 35 — four wards are reserved for women candidates. Political parties such as Congress, the BJP and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) are yet to announce their list of candidates. INLD and BJP are expected to announce their initial list of candidates on Wednesday.

The GCC president RS Rathee said that his organisation would field candidates with clean image. It has already announced one of its candidates name — Rama Rani Rathee (ward no. 34), who is the wife of the GCC president.

“We would soon announce the name for other wards as well. We have at least two candidates in each of the seven wards and we would soon finalise their names,” he added.

The INLD principal general secretary Ajay Singh Chautala is reaching Gurgaon on Wednesday when he is likely to announce the initial list of candidates. Anurag Bakshi, the spokesperson for BJP, said that the state party chief Krishan Pal Gujjar will announce the initial list of candidates on Wednesday.

“Our district level selection committee has decided on the list of 20 candidates but the state selection committee is likely to take its decision by Wednesday evening,” he added.
