HARASSED BY land mafia and a sub-inspector (S-I) of the local police station, about 40 residents of Geetapuri Colony, Gomti Nagar staged a sit-in outside SSP camp office on Thursday evening.
The agitators, including women, were running from pillar to post to get a park in the colony vacated from the illegal possession of a land mafia Sanjiv Sonkar for the past several months. All efforts made by the residents in this regard turned futile as S-I Anil Yadav of Gomti Nagar police station joined hands with Sonkar and started torturing the people.
The group of residents reached SSP’s camp office around 5.45 pm carrying placards reading ‘bhu-mafia se park ko mukt karao’ and ‘police ki gundagardi band karo’ (get the park vacated from land mafia and stop the police harassment). The women raised anti-police slogans demanding action against S-I Yadav and to register a case against land mafia Sonkar.
Talking to HT Live, one of the agitators Naveen Chandra Joshi said residents of the colony had entered into a dispute with local goon Sanjiv Sonkar since the latter’s aides started erecting their boundary wall to grab the land of the park.
The hooligans initially issued life threats to the people asking the residents not to create hurdle in their work or their boss (Sonkar) would cause trouble for them.
But, all the residents gathered at the site then and forced the group of goons to leave the place. Later, another agitator Nitin Kumar said, Sonkar arrived at the spot, accompanied by S-I Anil Yadav and threatened the residents to book them in a false case. Since the people did not follow the directives, Yadav framed a false case of encroaching land of the by-lane against four of the residents.
Yadav ensured sending the four persons to jail. The residents went to the senior cops and got an inquiry into the matter done by the anti corruption bureau.
The probe later found the case against four residents fabricated and an order was issued to the SSP for making an adverse entry into character roll of S-I Yadav.
The S-I, however, kept helping Sonkar ignoring the inquiry report. The residents of Geetapuri went to the court later and got a stay order against the construction on the land of the park. But, the police did not register a case or initiate action against Sonkar or the S-I.
Meanwhile, SSP’s PRO accepted the complaint of the agitators assuring them for an action.
