The district court on Wednesday sent a notice to the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) after a petition was filed against the department's involvement in the construction of a road in Sector 12.

The petition, filed by two residents, alleges Huda illegally carried out the construction work on its own and also it used inferior quality material.

According to the Haryana Municipal Act, the construction, maintenance, alteration and improvements of public streets and bridges are the responsibilities of the municipal corporation, said S Oberoi, a resident of Uniworld Garden, Sohna Road.

He said this is one of the obligatory functions of the municipal corporation and not Huda.

The corporation can allot such works to different departments but those departments cannot individually perform construction activities.

The notice was issued to Huda by civil judge (senior division) Vijay Yadav. The petitioners have also asked to remove departments like Huda, HSIIDC and PWD, saying that such works should be carried out by the municipal corporation.

“When we objected, workers told us that nothing can be done and they will construct the remaining part of the road according to proper specifications,” OP Kataria, a resident.
