If you inform your mum on the phone that you’re spending the next two hours of the evening in jail, she’d wonder what crime you committed. You’re welcomed at Jail by a statue clad in jail uniform. There is a lounge, cabin areas and an open space. The cabins have been decked up like prison cells, with caricatures of popular movie villains: Mogambo, Shaakaal and Don.
There’s a special cabin located behind a police van too.If you occupy a table in the lounge, be ready for loud music on loop, an LCD TV screen for cricket matches and extremely poorly lit tables. You’ll guess from the attire who’s the waiter (looks like a prisoner) and who’s the manager (dressed as a policeman).
We order Nachos (Rs 155, average in quantity and quality), Orange Mint Cooler (Rs 131, ho-hum), Sweet Mellow (Rs 131, quite nice) and Salad Grilled Vegetables (Rs 210, okay). As the dishes arrive, you realise that it was a good decision to order more items because one dish serves just one.
The service is speedy. However, the staff have no clue if you ask them for advice.Next: Broccoli Walnut Soup (Rs 160, strictly okay), which tastes more like spinach than broccoli. Then, we order Vegetable Stroganoff (Rs 290, just passes the muster.) Overall, the place, however deep into Italian food, is best for its few Indian dishes, which is why we order Kesari Paneer Tikka(Rs 195, tender and yummy).
