A portion of a house was partially damaged when its retaining wall was washed away in heavy rainfall on Saturday, causing cracks on walls and ceiling, at Mast Garh near Peer Mitha in ward number 3 here.
Local residents had reportedly submitted a written application to the Jammu municipal corporation (JMC) officials, urging them to construct the retaining wall of the house on priority basis before the monsoon season, but to no avail.
Earlier also, Ashok Khajuria, MLA Jammu East, had directed the JMC to take necessary action in this regard.
However, despite being aware of the risk involved, the JMC officials failed to act on time and the plea remained unattended for more than seven months.
Vaishno Devi, owner of the house, said the retaining wall collapsed at 2am amid heavy downpour, filling her lobby with the rainwater.
Meanwhile, people of the area expressed resentment over the "casual approach" of the urban local body, thus putting the lives of people at risk.
