A RETIRED Home Department official and his wife were battered to death and their servant was injured at Indira Nagar Colony house on Friday noon.

The injured was battling for life at the KGMU Trauma centre. The motive for the sensational killing was yet to be established as valuables in the house were found intact. The cops, however, have detained a relative of the servant for interrogation.

The cops suspect role of the servant behind the incident, but they are waiting for recording his statement.

Four elderly persons were murdered for various motives during past six months in the city. This included a retired woman health department officer and a retired IAS officer.

The Friday incident took place around 1 pm at when a woman at Sector-19, Indira Nagar saw her neighbour Gulab Chandra’s servant Jaswant going on a rickshaw with blood oozing out from his head. Jaswant’s sister-in-law rushed him to hospital.

The woman ran to Gulab Chandra’s house at 19/234 and entered the room to witness horrifying scene inside. She screamed to see Gulab Chandra’s body lying in a pool of blood on bed in the bedroom. His wife Saraswati lay dead close to the kitchen.

Faces and heads of the couple were smashed with a blunt object.

Hearing screams of the woman, the residents gathered at the scene and informed the local police. They locked the house.

Since the station officer (SO) and the CO Gomti Nagar were on  panchayat election duty, two constables reached the spot initially. The policemen took the bodies to nearby Ujala nursing home where the doctors confirmed their death.

The SO rushed the place from Malihabad after an hour. The police went to the hospital where servant Jaswant was undergoing treatment.

However, the cops could not collect details from him, as he appeared semi-unconscious.

Circumstantial evidence indicated that Saraswati (65) was attacked when she was busy in the kitchen while her husband was in the bedroom.

Gulab Chandra (70) and his wife probably had offered resistance to the assailants, as bloodstains were splattered all around the kitchen and the bedroom.

Belongings scattered on the floor in the bedroom too corroborated the scuffle between Gulab Chandra and the assailants.

Meanwhile, a neighbour informed Gulab Chandra’s son SC Singh, a retired major and presently serving as security officer.

Singh lives separately with his parents in Indira Nagar while Gulab Chandra’s elder son Prakash Singh was a Colonel posted in Bhopal.
