A retired sub-inspector of police was among two persons arrested by CB-CID wing of Tamil Nadu police on Saturday in connection with a false insurance claim case.
In 2002, A K Jayaraman, then SI of Traffic Investigation Wing in Tiruchirappally City, investigated a "non-fatal accident" and falsely charged the driver of a private bus with rash and negligent driving causing grievous injury to complainant Sampath Kumar, a CB-CID press release said.
On the basis of the investigation conducted by Jayaraman, Kumar made a claim of Rs one lakh before the Motor Accident Claim Tribunal from Oriental Insurance Company.
However, the local branch manager of the insurance company preferred a complaint of false claim with the Tiruchirappally City Police and the case was later transferred to CB-CID on directions of the Madras High Court, the release said, adding that investigation proved that Kumar had not sustained any injury.
"The Investigating Officer Jayaraman was hand-in-glove with the complainant and made perfunctory investigation and filed charge sheet against truth," the release said adding the two were arrested on Saturday.
They were later remanded to judicial custody at Tiruchy Central prison, the release said.
