Revenue minister Javeed Mustafa Mir said the department may sack corrupt officials to bring about a change in the functioning of the department.

"The government is taking many initiatives to bring a discernible change in the system. And, in this process several heads may be rolled , but upright and committed officials would receive praise," said the minister at a function in Jammu.

The minister had invited about 100 delegates from the 20 blocks of the Jammu district for an interaction over the functioning of the department.

The revenue minister is highly critical of the functioning of the department. He has recently made many transfers.

Jammu district development commissioner Simrandeep Singh, senior functionaries of district administration and tehsildars of all tehsils of the district were present at the meeting.
The minister said the department has brought in new team of tehsildars to provide relief to the common people.

"Speak fearlessly, if you have any grievances regarding the working of any officer or official and the government as a whole. I will assure prompt response," the minister told the delegates.

The minister also assured to take up the issue of crop compensation to the farmers whose agriculture land has come under border fencing with the Centre.

The delegates, who included people from border blocks of RS Pura and Suchetgarh, raised the issue of adequate compensation to the people injured in cross-border firing and shelling.
