The J&K Pradesh Youth Congress (PYC) has flayed the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) action of selling 8 kanals of land to earn crores of rupees from the reclaimed land of the Tawi river, which was earmarked for developing a park dedicated to Maharaja Hari Singh.
Pranav Shagotra, vice-president of PYC, told mediapersons on Thursday that entire Tawi bank comes under the proposed facelift project, where recreational facilities would be created for locals and other attractions for tourists and pilgrims.
Using a portion of the land for constructing business establishments would be detrimental to the cause of developing Jammu city as an independent tourist destination, Shagotra said. "This is a malicious act on the part of the JDA to sell off portion of Maharaja Hari Singh Park to a hotelier to raise the structure on the land."
The PYC leader termed any sale deed in this regard illegal, since no reclaimed land can be used for commercial purpose and no construction on the same can be raised. "The sale deed in this regard should be revoked forthwith."
Shagotra also demanded that the state government should intervene into the matter and stop the sale of land at any cost, keeping in view the sentiments of people of Jammu.
