THE DEATH toll in the bus accident at Govindgarh lake in Rewa rose to 62 with the recovery of six more bodies on Friday. Fifty-six bodies were fished out from the lake on Thursday.

Health Minister Ajay Vishnoi, who is in charge of Rewa district, Minister in charge of Satna Ramshanker Tiwari and Rewa Divisional Commissioner S K Ved met the families of those killed.

They distributed extra-gratia payment of Rs 1 lakh each to the next of the kin of 30 victims, 18 from Satna and 12 from Rewa.

Ved told Hindustan Times that divers from Indore Fire Brigade and Army men from Allahabad were carrying out the rescue operations. Divers from Mathura too have reached the spot.

Some mechanical fault in the vehicle apparently led to the accident, he said. Most of the victims were labourers.
