Hairstyles in the campus are more than just about fashion. It’s a way of making a statement and most importantly, of impressing the opposite — and sometimes the same — sex. Rahul Sabharwal talks to hair experts to find out what’s ‘in’ this season and what youngsters should do to take care of their tresses.
Javed Habib feels that joining college means getting out of the do’s and don'ts of school and with that comes a huge amount of experimentation. “You’ll see most first year students spending money, dating to get out of the strict school routine. Likewise, they experiment with their hair by using out of the world colours. I recommend going short and if you want to go in for colours, avoid loud ones. As for hair care, hair serum is the best thing to protect your tresses from the heat. It’s like sunscreen for your hair,” he says.
Vandana Luthra feels that old styles have made a huge comeback. She says, “Bob hair style has been given a sleek and casual touch to be at par with today’s costumes and make-up.” She recommends a high ponytail for straight long hair and adds, “Permed hair is in this season. Curls and bounce is back in vogue.” For guys, she says, “It can be long and textured or super short, tight.” For care against the elements, she says, “The use of a spray-in hair sunscreen, a hat, a leave-in conditioner can help. Also, remember to keep you hair well hydrated.”
Varun Datta, hairstylist at Looks Saloon, feels that the messy or spiked look is out. “The vintage sophisticated look is the way to go since it goes with every dress. Since students don’t have free time, girls should go in for short hair like Victoria Beckham or the bob cut with some variation. Shades of red are really hot this season.” For hair care, he recommends using a hair cream to nourish your hair and protect it from humidity.
