Concerned over the possibility of outbreak of malaria and dengue during summer, the district health department has planned to create awareness about these diseases through a mobile phone ringtone.
The ringtone, to be created with the help of a telecom service provider, will talk about precautions that one should take to curb the spread of such mosquito-borne diseases.
Many residents fall prey to malaria and dengue every year during summer.
Last year, 153 dengue cases were registered and the disease claimed nine lives.
A total of 526 malaria cases were recorded across the district in 2011.
This year, the city has witnessed 35 malaria cases and one dengue case so far.
"To sensitise city residents, we have decided to introduce a hello tune or a ringtone which would guide the residents on how we could protect or safeguard ourself from the disease," said Dr MP Sharma, deputy civil surgeon.
