Campus Calling

At KC College, the best hangout is the canteen, Kibosh corner, the marble steps and the corridor. The freshers are told to give an introductory speech and message for their seniors to bond with them.

At Wilson, Mumbai’s oldest college the best hangout places include the canteen and Mc Kenzie Hall — there’s free wifi connection available — and everyone comes there to complete projects so inadvetently, it has turend into a not-to-be ignored meeting point. The person to know in the canteen is Nagraj, who has been around the college canteen for a long time and knows everyone who is anyone in the college. At Wilson’s, newcomers are expected to introduce themselves and display or state their special quality or past achievements. To the left of the college there is a small tea shop where students often congregate.

Likewise at Jai Hind College, the cafeteria is a place where people eat and also practice for dramas, dance and festivals so it’s entertainment unlimited. John a person at canteen, is very famous among students, Canteen. On Valentine’s Day a special bouquet is made which is then auctioned to the highest bidder. There is a RA stall where the college students flock to have a smoke.

Sydenham College has its own way, the members of cooperative stores have an unique tradition for freshers. They are told to give a briefly introduce themselves and then there is a ‘press up party’ based on a theme which, is decided. The freshers are supposed to perform a play and be the entertainment folks of the party to bond up with the members.

At H R College, the best hangout however is the state of art gym in college on the ground floor and the canteen, kibosh corner, the sandwhich wala outside the college. They celebrate ‘chocolate day’ wherein, students dedicate a message to friends through a chocolate and every chocolate has a tagline, for eg. ‘perk is a jerk’ etc. They also have ‘black and white day’, wherein, the students come dressed in formals in black and white. HR is famous for celebrating ‘bazaar day’ wherein, the students bring different things like bracelets, rings etc and sell them in their college in bazaar, exciting. For freshers, there’s a whole new world to discover.

Students of St.Xaviers College, have a host of activities any new student will finde facinating. During their annual college festival Malhar, they have a ‘secret angel’ and ‘card-o-lates’, where one has to pick a chit with a persons name on it and give gifts to that person till Malhar ends. While doing so, one may not reveal his/her identity. Similarly, they have secret Santa Claus distributing gifts in the Christmas too. So freshers, are you ready to rumble?
