Investigation into the murder case of 19-year-old Sachin, who was brutally attacked by five youths at south Delhi's busy Madangir Central Market, has revealed that Sachin was not the prime target of the alleged accused who were allegedly on a murder rampage, police sources said.
Investigators have learnt that the five youths had actually planned to kill an alleged local criminal Mayur Deva as he was the one who had been bullying and troubling them the most.
The five had first gone to Deva'a in-laws home in the same locality and had opened fire at him while he was having lunch with his wife Neeru. However, Deva survived the attack even as three bullets were fired at him. His life was saved by his wife and brother-in-law Kaale.
While Neeru locked the house from inside and fled with Deva after jumping down from the back of their building, Kaale overpowered two of the attackers and stopped them from entering the house.
"Having failed in their plot to kill their prime target and enemy Deva, the five attackers moved ahead with their plan to kill Sachin, an associate of Deva who used to extort 'protection' money from the accused while Deva was in Tihar jail in a robbery case. Deva was released on bail on Friday only. He continued troubling the five youths for extorting money from them," said a senior investigating officer adding the five had planned to get rid of their problems by killing the troublemakers.
All the five youths were apprehended after their brutal attack on Sachin that lasted for around a minute was captured in a CCTV camera installed at a shop in the market. Police have now established that only three of them were juveniles. The other two were not minors. When apprehended on Wednesday, all the five attackers had claimed to be juveniles.
On Thursday, Shahrukh and Kartik were arrested and produced before a Delhi court that sent them to Tihar jail for 14 days. The apprehended juvenile accused were produced before a juvenile justice board from where they were sent to correction home for boys.
