An inquiry has shown that the railway police official, who first investigated in Rizwanur Rahman death case, was subjected to mental torture by his superior officer and post-mortem reports is understood to have hinted that the officer committed suicide.
A departmental inquiry has established that his officer-in-charge Manas Chakraborty subjected Dum Dum sub inspector Arindam Manna, whose body was found beside railway tracks on February 11 at Mankundu station in Hooghly district, to mental harassment, Additional Director General (Railways) Dilip Mitra said on Tuesday.
There had been complaints of the same nature against the officer-in-charge earlier also; Mitra said adding Chakraborty has been transferred to the Enforcement Department of the Sealdah GRP.
The post-mortem report of Manna has reached the CID, which claimed that it was very close to solving the case. "We will solve the case soon," said an investigating officer.
The Railways, Mitra said, conducted simultaneous inquiries about Chakraborty and officer-in-charge of Sheoraphulli GRP Somnath Bhattacharya for the death of Manna.
"We have received the post mortem report and are examining it," DIG (CID), Neeraj Nayan Pandey said.
Sources in CID, however, said the report hinted that the death of Manna was either a suicide or an accident.
