The Rashtriya Lok Dal, an ally of ruling Samajwadi Party on Wednesday blasted the DGP Bua and Principal Secretary (Home) SK Agarwal for claiming improvement in law and order situation in the state. The RLD said the DGP’s claim had no basis.

Raising the issue during debate on point of order on government denying information to the House, the RLD member Munna Singh Chauhan said mafia had been ruling the roost in the government. He said the police had not been registering FIR but the DGP had claimed that there was improvement in the police functioning and law and order. Chauhan said the crime situation had been fast deteriorating and over all law and order had gone from bad to worse. He said the DGP’s claim was shocking.

The BJP also assailed the state government for sharp rise in crimes in the state. Raghuvram Mishra and JP Chaturvedi (both BJP), criticized the police for massacre of 15 people in Sitapur district last week. Mishra said the Sitapur police had failed to take preventive measures, which led to clash between two groups resulting into murder of 15 persons. Mishra said the police had also been protecting one group. Mishra said notwithstanding tall claims about control in crimes, the police reaction had always been slow after the incident. The BJP demanded action against senior police officers of the district for severe lapse. The leader of the House Ahmad Hasan said six persons had already been arrested and action would also be taken against officers for slackness.
